The Last Ilkhanate Toga Timur Khan and His Successors
After the death of Sultan Abu Saeed Bahadir Khan in 736/1335, the Ilkhanate-centered palace politics, which witnessed struggles for the throne, caused great turmoil for his successors, especially Toga Timur Khan. Indeed, Sultan Abu Saeed Bahadir Khan left behind neither a brother nor a son. This situation created a great authority gap in the Ilkhanate palace and further increased the struggles that would occur. Although the descendants of Hulagu Khan had a say in the administration for a while with the support of the local emirs, this situation did not last long and they could not go further than being used as puppets of their supporters. Toga Timur Khan, who lived in Jurjan and was a descendant of Genghis Khan's brother Jochi Kasar, also took part in these struggles and after a few unsuccessful attempts, he was able to maintain the Ilkhanate presence in Mazandaran and a part of Khorasan.
