Abstract: Is a form of sacredness independent from a creator and personal God (an Abrahamic God), and compatible with secularism, possible today in France? Indeed, because of some of their beliefs, their tormented history and their links with contemporary (geo)politics, monotheisms can be problematic. But other forms of non-theistic spiritualities also exist in France. To address this question, we first clarify some key terms. Then, we explain the importance of this topic, and offer several explanations regarding the appeal of secular spiritualities, which attract millions of French citizens. Finally, we analyze several major trends in secular spirituality.
