Perineal cystocele due to ruptured urogenital diaphragm post‐dystocia in cow

ABSTRACT Present communication comprehensively describes the perineal cystocele, a rare condition in bovines that emerged post‐dystocia in a 4‐year‐old crossbred cow. The condition is characterized by protrusion of the urinary bladder into the vulvar area following a rupture of the urogenital diaphragm during calving. Despite initial treatments, the cow exhibited worsening symptoms, necessitating referral to a multispecialty veterinary centre. Diagnostic evaluations, including ultrasonography, confirmed the presence of a ventral perineal hernia at the left vulvar lip. Surgical intervention involved hernioplasty with mesh reinforcement, successfully repositioning the bladder and repairing the urogenital diaphragm. Postoperative recovery was uneventful, with the cow resuming normal reproductive and milk production functions. This case underscores the critical need for timely and accurate surgical management of perineal hernias in cattle, offering valuable insights into a rare and scarcely documented clinical scenario.
