Millî Mücadele Sonrası Gençlik: 1933-1940 Yıllıklarından Sosyo-Kültürel Bir Okuma
In this study, yearbooks from Balıkesir Necatibey Teacher School, Galatasaray High School, Işık High School, İstiklal High School, Kayseri High School, and Maltepe Military High School, which provided education in various cities from Thrace to Anatolia between 1933 and 1940, were examined to gather information about students. The common characteristics of these young individuals, who grew up in different cultural contexts and received education under varying conditions, were evaluated. While some graduates awaited appointment after completing their education at teacher schools, others strived for self-improvement in military high schools, taking pride in their country’s struggle. Turkey, emerging from the National Struggle period, was undergoing a process of reconstruction, particularly in education, as well as in culture, art, and literature. Raising awareness among the new generation was one of the primary objectives during this period. Within this framework, the thoughts, social lives, goals, and interests of high school students receiving education with these aims in mind were analyzed. Most of the yearbooks examined in the study are from Istanbul-based private educational institutions. These schools primarily catered to children from socially privileged backgrounds. Thus, it is not feasible to make generalizations representing the entire country solely based on these schools. However, data obtained from institutions such as military high schools, teacher schools, and Kayseri High School, which had more diverse socio-economic and cultural student profiles, provided a foundation for more comprehensive evaluations.
