On the Use of Ce[N(SiMe 3 ) 2 ] 3 (THF) <i>n</i> in Catalysis

A recent catalysis study claimed Ce[N(SiMe3)2]3(THF)3 as the starting material but later published a correction indicating the starting material was unsolvated Ce[N(SiMe3)2]3. We report here that there is another possibility in this cerium amide system that should be considered, particularly if the presence of THF would be a problem due to ring opening side reactions. Crystallization of Ce[N(SiMe3)2]3 from THF forms the THF adduct Ce[N(SiMe3)2]3(THF). The synthesis and structure of the monosolvate, as well as binding constant studies, are reported.
