The Bronx Food and Farm Tours Case Study
Summary This case study of the Bronx Food and Farm Tours, an urban agriculture tours series, which has been running annually for 15 years, is written by two of the co-founders and organizers, both long-time staff of two Bronx anchor institutions , Montefiore Einstein and New York Botanical Garden , that have been instrumental to this tour series . Since 2011, the tours have provided a chance to showcase and build connections with the tremendous community initiatives that have been taking place in Bronx gardens and farms to a wider audience. Local elected officials, local government agencies, community garden and urban farm leaders, a botanical garden and a regional health system joined forces to launch this tour with the goals of showcasing the borough of the Bronx in a new light while highlighting important health indicators and supporting local gardens and farms. This case study outlines the impetus for the creation of the tours , the founding principles , goals , partnerships and components of the tours . Additionally , this case study traces the evolution of the tours spanning 15 years and shares challenges the organizers faced and how they adapted the tours in response to these challenges .
