İbn Haldun’un Şehir Nazariyesi Işığında Merv Şehri
Some cities were built by powerful rulers because of their strategic location, good weather and fertile soil. The city of Merv was built by the Pishdādid ruler Tehumers. According to one rumor, it was founded by the Turkish king Alp Er Tunga. Although the founder of the city is unknown, it was one of the central cities of Khorasan from the day it was founded until the day it was destroyed and lost to history. Merv is an important city with its mild weather, fertile soil and abundant running water. Historically, it was the crossroads of trade caravans and a center of arts and crafts. The estimated formation date, location, climate, etc. aspects of the city have been evaluated in the light of Ibn Khaldun's theory of the city. Especially this aspect is the main subject of our study. In this framework, our study aims to evaluate the reasons for the construction, location, climate and preference of the city of Merv in the light of Ibn Khaldun's theory of the city. It has been seen that the city of Merv meets the criteria specified in Ibn Khaldun's theory of the city with its foundation, construction and reconstruction, location and climate. In this study based on literature review, secondary data were utilized. The data obtained were analyzed and interpreted using descriptive analysis technique.
