Kur’anî Perspektiften İsrâiloğulları ve Yahudilik: Kavramsal Bir Analiz ve Anlam İnşası

Studies on the İsraelites and Judaism seem to focus only on the historical dimension. This situation leads to ignoring the Quranic distinctions such as the Children of İsrael, the People of Moses, Yahud, Hadu, Huden, Ahl al-Kitāb and the Tribes. Interpreting the Quranic statements about the İsraelites and the Jews as if they were identical groups leads to neglecting the Quranic address that describes history. The Quran emphasizes that Abraham, İshmael, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, David, Solomon and the tribes were not Jews and that there was no relationship between them and Judaism. The name Jew was attributed to Judah, one of the sons of Jacob, and centuries after Moses, the term Judaism was used to refer to the religion of the Children of İsrael. Judaism should be evaluated primarily as a name referring to the religion of the people of Judah. The Quran’s distinction between the Jews and the Children of İsrael through address preferences shaped the content of the Meccan-Medinan verses. Verses mentioning the history of the Children of İsrael were included in Meccan surahs and presented as a message to the Arab community in Mecca and to Muslims. This study aims to reveal how the concepts of the Children of İsrael and Judaism are used in different contexts in the Quran by analyzing these distinctions and address preferences
