Héléne L’Heuillet, Gecikmeye Övgü: Zaman Nereye Gitti?

In her work In Praise of Delay, Hélène L'Heuillet deals with the relationship between time and human, human's resistance against time and draws attention to the problematic of time hunger suffered by modern man. In this work, which deals with human's reckoning with time, the author aims to confront the problematic of how human uses his own time. However, she presents delay as a new suggestion to add meaning to life. According to the author, the concept that has the potential to save human beings is a ‘delay’ that would mean rebellion against speed. Delay is actually an additional time that opens to another place. The author defines thinking as freedom and delay and considers deep thought itself as an art of delay. This shows that the author bases the main theme of the title, the praise of delay, on philosophy. The book includes the disciplines of sociology and psychology as well as philosophy, and the conceptualizations specific to these disciplines are used effectively and harmoniously in explaining the theme of delay. In this context, it can be said that the author approaches the theme of delay with an interdisciplinary approach. In addition, the original conceptualization specific to the author is remarkable in the book. It is seen that the author has a paradoxical and shocking style; a perspective that breaks the moulds and reconstructs. Although the volume of the book is small, its style has a depth beyond being understood in a single reading. The target audience of the work is people who have develop sensitivity to time. The positive aspects of the book are conceptual richness and semantic depth; negative aspect is methodological ambiguity.
