On the Coupling of Combustion and Shock-Wave–Boundary-Layer Interaction
Shock-induced ignition and combustion is prevalent in scramjets and oblique detonation engines. When fuel injection is near the wall, it results in the coupling of combustion heat release and shock-wave–boundary-layer interaction. This study numerically investigates the effects of shock-induced combustion on the interaction length scale and separation state. The results indicate that the combustion heat release in the interaction region significantly increases the interaction length scale and causes the boundary layer to separate at a lower shock strength. The control volume method based on mass conservation elucidates the reason for the interaction length scale increasing due to combustion heat release. Furthermore, a separation criterion that considers the combustion heat release is established for high-Reynolds-number flows based on the Euler equations.
