Anadolu Kadınıyla Özdeşleşen Kültür Taşıyıcısı Çeyiz Sandıklarının Dili ve Çağdaş Sanat Uygulamalarında İzdüşümleri Üzerine Bir Araştırma
This study examines the historical development and symbolic language of dowry chests, which hold a significant place in Anatolian culture, through their deep-rooted connections with women. Hope chests serve not only as part of pre-marital preparations but also as indicators of women’s socio-cultural identities and their families’ economic status. They reflect solidarity among women, cultural transmission, and social rituals. These chests possess a symbolic language passed down through generations, manifesting in motifs, colors, materials, and craftsmanship techniques. Studying the historical development of hope chests in Anatolia, uncovering their symbolic language, and analyzing its evolution over time is crucial for understanding socio-cultural changes from the past to the present and their place in the modern era. Hope chests are more than just household items; they are cultural heritage and symbols of identity. The materials and handicraft techniques used in making these chests are part of this symbolic language. The meanings of the motifs have been contextualized within ancient Turkic beliefs and traditions, and the study further analyzes how these symbols have been closely associated with women and how they have evolved, as well as their reflections in contemporary art.
