The moral relevance of potential

Abstract Numerous problems have been raised against the view that infants should be treated differently from animals because infants have the potential to develop higher cognitive capacities. I argue that these problems apply to more widely accepted views. One must either reject these views alongside the relevance of potential or conclude that the problems regarding potential are less serious than is often claimed.
