Acute gross and histopathologic changes after ischaemic ventricular tachycardia ablation
Little is known about the in vivo characteristics of catheter ablation lesion, especially in human myocardium. These gross anatomic and histopathologic images, obtained six days after ischemic ventricular tachycardia (VT) ablation from the explanted heart of a patient who underwent orthotopic heart transplantation, captures a vivid and instructive example of a hyperacute radiofrequency catheter ablation lesion. The specimen provides detailed imaging of a characteristic three-layered VT ablation lesion and highlights the challenges of achieving transmural lesion formation. The images may serve as a future reference for comparison with lesions created by pulsed field ablation.
