Combination Effect of Bleaching and Resin Infiltration for Masking Dental Discoloration: Case Series with 36-month Follow-up
IntroductIonTooth discoloration is a significant esthetic concern because it is noticed more quickly than other cosmetic issues. It has negative effects on psychosocial status, social interactions, and self-esteem, especially among young individuals. 1Whitespot lesions (WSLs) are early signs of enamel demineralization and are commonly observed in dental fluorosis resulting from enamel development disruption, which leads to brown stains and superficial pitting. 2 These lesions also occur after orthodontic treatment because orthodontic equipment can raise the risk of poor oral hygiene and plaque adherence and limit the ability for self-cleansing. 3arious conventional treatment options are available for managing WSLs and discolored teeth based on the severity of the lesion; examples of treatment are topical fluoride application, bleaching therapy, microabrasion, and veneers. 4,5Remineralization techniques with topical fluorides are effective, and their esthetic effect is often confined to the surface of the lesion. 6Furthermore, they need to be applied early and may not consistently deliver the desired esthetic outcomes. 5,6Microabrasion and veneers are other treatment options, but they require the removal of superficial enamel, which can result in postoperative sensitivity.
