COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF CLINICAL EFFICACY, COMPLICATIONS AND RECURRENCE RATES BETWEEN STENT-ASSISTED COIL EMBOLIZATION AND SIMPLE COIL EMBOLIZATION FOR RUPTURED INTRACRANIAL ANEURYSMS

Abstract Objectives To compare the clinical efficacy, perioperative complications and recurrence rate of stent-assisted coil embolization (SAC) versus simple coil embolization (SC) for ruptured intracranial aneurysms. Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted on 86 patients with ruptured aneurysms who were admitted from 2016 to 2025. The patients were divided into the observation group (wide-neck aneurysms, with SAC, n = 41) and the control group (narrow-neck aneurysms, with SC, n = 45) based on the morphology of the aneurysm neck. The immediate postoperative embolization rate (Raymond-Roy classification), complication rate, 6-month modified Rankin Scale (mRS) score, and 2-year recurrence rate were evaluated in both groups. Results There was no statistically significant differences in age, Hunt-Hess grading, and aneurysm location between the two groups (p>.05). The complete embolization rate (85.4% vs 73.3%, p<.05) and recurrence rate (4.9% vs 17.8%, p<.05) in the observation group were significantly better than those in the control group. The incidence of perioperative thromboembolic events was higher in the observation group (9.8% vs 2.2%, p<.05). There was no statistically significant difference in neurological functional prognosis (mRS ≤ 2) between the two groups (82.9% vs 84.4%). Conclusions SAC can significantly improve the embolization effect of wide-necked aneurysms and reduce the risk of recurrence, but caution should be exercised against thrombotic complications.
