A Cobalt Borate Built by {B 12 } and {Co 3 } Clusters for Photothermal Conversion
A novel cobalt dodecaborate {Co3(H2O)3}2B12O24 (<b>1</b>) was first made under solvothermal conditions. It is a 3D neutral framework built by the sandwiched {B12O24}@{Co3(H2O)3}2 cluster, in which a crown-like B12O24 ({B12}) cluster is capped by two Co3O6(H2O)3 ({Co3}) units. The trinuclear {Co3} cluster is first found in borates. Due to the aggregation of Co2+ with a d-d transition, <b>1</b> has a broad absorption band from visible to near-infrared (NIR) regions. Photothermal conversion tests reveal that <b>1</b> exhibits promising photothermal conversion efficiency (27.3%) under the irradiation of a 1064 nm NIR light, furthermore with excellent cyclic stability. This work represents the first investigation of photothermal conversion performances in crystalline borates, highlighting the potential of borate-based materials for photothermal conversion applications.
