Augmenting Immunity by developing and implementing augmented reality (AR) tools for teaching fundamental immunological processes 3053

Abstract Description The complex and dynamic nature of immunological pathways often challenges students when visualizing and comprehending them through traditional teaching methods. Augmented reality (AR) has emerged as an effective educational tool to address this challenge by offering immersive, interactive, and visually engaging experiences. This study outlines developing and implementing augmented reality (AR) tools for teaching fundamental immunological processes. By utilizing AR-enabled devices, students could explore 3D, animated models of immune cell interactions in real time, thereby enhancing their understanding of spatial relationships and dynamic processes. A mixed-methods evaluation, incorporating pre-and post-tests, surveys, and focus group discussions, demonstrated that students who utilized the AR tools exhibited significantly enhanced conceptual understanding and retention compared to traditional methods. Additionally, feedback indicated increased engagement and motivation. These findings illustrate the potential of AR to transform immunology education, rendering complex topics accessible, interactive, and impactful for a diverse range of learners.
