Quantitation of low abundance cardiac troponin I and IL-6 in human blood samples using SMC® high sensitivity immunoassays 3095
Abstract Description Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a general term for all heart related vascular diseases, including coronary artery disease (CAD), and is the leading cause of death worldwide. It is well known that inflammation plays a key role in all stages of CAD. An increase in pro-inflammatory response, such as IL-6, has been associated with worsening prognosis in CAD. Recent research has focused on IL-6 in combination with Cardiac Troponin T (cTnT) as potential biomarkers for CAD. Here we report that Cardiac Troponin I (cTnI) in combination with IL-6 also shows potential as CAD biomarkers. To this end, we have developed a novel SMC® cTnI and IL-6 2-Plex ultrasensitive immunoassay that can quantitate both cTnI and IL-6 in in a single assay. Furthermore, we have developed a next generation FemtoQuestTM instrument, which allows simultaneous detection of two analytes in a single assay well, thus saving precious samples. The SMC® 2-plex assay consistently demonstrates LLoQ of 0.35 pg/mL for cTnI and 0.06 pg/mL for IL-6. More importantly, these assays were able to quantify and differentiate these two analytes in healthy and CVD blood samples. In summary, SMC® high sensitivity immunoassay kit can provide a powerful non-invasive biomarker tool in studying cardiovascular diseases, such as CAD. Quantitation of biomarkers in blood is crucial for the understanding of diseases and its progression, which can lead to exploration into new therapeutic applications.
