C1q and C1q receptors (gC1qR and cC1qR) as potential targets against cervical cancer among African Americans, East Asians, and Caucasians 3954
Abstract Description The complement protein C1q and its receptors, gC1qR and cC1qR, are expressed across non-cancerous and malignant cells, playing roles in either promoting or inhibiting cellular proliferation depending on their localization as intracellular, surface-bound, or secreted forms. This study investigates the multifaceted nature of C1q and its receptors in cervical cancer aiming to understand the specific mechanisms by which they influence cell growth. Using HeLa, SiHa, and C-33A cell lines as cervical cancer models, the study explores the functions of both secreted and membrane forms of C1q, gC1qR, and cC1qR. By comparing their expression levels in the cell lines derived from African American, East Asian, and Caucasian models through enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISAs), Western blots, bicinchoninic acid assay (BCA) assays, MTT assays, and microscopy. Results suggest that the gC1qR-C1q axis could be a promising target for developing antibody-based therapeutic treatments to combat cervical cancer, potentially offering new and effective approaches to stop or reduce cancer progression.
