Educational visits, networking and guest lectures: how to introduce undergraduate students to the professional world of immunology 3001
Abstract Description Teaching immunology to undergraduate students presents a unique challenge due to the complexity of the immune system. Generally, immunology courses aim to familiarize students with the cytological, histological, and anatomical features of immunology while elucidating the processes underlying the immune response and introducing common disorders associated with the immune system. Traditional pedagogical approaches, including instructor-led lectures and basic laboratory experiences, effectively convey theoretical knowledge and practical applications of immunological concepts. However, to enrich the learning experience, it is essential to highlight the diverse applications of immunological knowledge, thereby broadening students’ career perspectives beyond healthcare professions. This work discusses innovative strategies for enhancing the curriculum through guest lectures by experts in various fields of applied immunology and organizing educational visits to research centers focused on immunology. These initiatives serve as motivational tools, encouraging students to explore alternative career pathways. Additionally, we offer practical tips for creating a robust networking platform to connect students with relevant speakers and professionals, ultimately expanding both course content and students’ professional horizons.
