The silent intruder: How heavy metals influence immune and genetic health 3642
Abstract Description Heavy metals pose significant threats to human health. Heavy metals disrupt immune and genetic systems upon entering the body by triggering oxidative stress and immune reactions. These processes are associated with considerable health risks, including immune dysregulation and chronic disease development. However, the effects of heavy metal exposure on immune cell populations and genetic markers remained poorly understood. This study focused on the immuno-genetic impact of chronic heavy metal exposure, investigating its effects on critical immune cell populations, specifically follicular B lymphocytes, follicular T helper cells, and follicular T regulatory cells. Employing a mixed-methods approach using cell culture models, the study assessed changes in surface marker expression, cytokine production, and antibody synthesis. Additionally, genetic analysis examined polymorphisms associated with detoxification and immune response. Blood and tissue samples from the spleen and lymph nodes were analyzed to quantify heavy metal levels and correlate these with immune and genetic parameters. Statistical methods identified relationships between exposure levels, immune dysfunction, and genetic changes. By addressing gaps in the literature, this research provided a comprehensive understanding of how heavy metals affect immune cell function and genetic expression, offering new insights into their role in disease pathogenesis.
