Assessing vitamin C’s treatment potential and nitrosamine’s carcinogenic impacts on breast cancer cell proliferation 3349

Abstract Description Vitamin C’s potential as an adjunct treatment for breast cancer offers promising avenues, particularly in counteracting the effects of nitrosamine-induced carcinogenesis. Nitrosamines, formed in processed foods through nitrate and amine reactions, are known carcinogens linked to cancer progression, posing dietary risks. This study investigates the effects of high-dose vitamin C on breast cancer cells exposed to nitrosamine, aiming to enhance therapeutic strategies and reduce exposure to dietary carcinogens. In this experiment, HCC1937 breast cancer cells were treated with increasing concentrations of nitrosamine and vitamin C, alongside untreated controls for comparison. Dose-dependent responses of cell growth were analyzed to assess the impact of each treatment condition. The results indicate that high-dose vitamin C effectively inhibits HCC1937 cell growth, counteracting the proliferative effects induced by nitrosamine. These findings underscore the potential of vitamin C as a cost-effective supplement to conventional cancer therapies, providing dual benefits of cancer cell suppression and mitigation of dietary carcinogen risks. This study suggests that incorporating vitamin C into breast cancer treatment protocols may enhance therapeutic outcomes and promote broader preventive strategies in oncology. Further research can examine high-dose vitamin C’s effects on other cancer cell lines to assess its potential as a universal adjunct for nitrosamine-induced carcinogenesis.
