Effect and the parameter thresholds of dynamic lighting on visual health and cognitive ability in hybrid lighting environments
Dynamic lighting is an important part of healthy lighting. To explore the effects and parameter thresholds of dynamic color temperature lighting on visual health and cognitive ability in hybrid lighting environment, this study combines comparative experiments and multidimensional evaluation methods by replicating actual learning scenarios. A hybrid lighting platform was built that combines ambient light (300 lx, 4000 K) and task light. The task light was divided into dynamic lighting (color temperature cycling 3000 K-5000 K) and static lighting (4000 K) groups, with four illuminances for each mode, totaling eight lighting conditions. Based on this, eye movement physiological indicators, subjective questionnaire scale, and cognitive task performance were integrated to extract and analyze data from physiological, subjective sensation, and behavioral performance. Results showed that under 500 lx-750 lx dynamic color temperature lighting in hybrid environments, the fluctuation of pupil diameter and blink frequency were lower, and the subjective visual fatigue score was significantly lower than that of static lighting. Dynamic color temperature illumination may be beneficial for alleviating visual fatigue; Under 750 lx-1000 lx dynamic color temperature lighting, participants ' completion time for attention tasks (e.g., Schulte Grid) was shortened, and the index of mental capacity (IMC) showed an increasing trend. Dynamic lighting may be beneficial for improving attention; 750 lx dynamic color temperature lighting has the best comprehensive performance in relieving visual fatigue, improving attention and efficiency. It proposes a new path for dynamic lighting research that integrates multidimensional evaluation indicators, and provides relevant data references for healthy lighting design in practical scenarios such as classrooms. • A hybrid lighting platform (ambient + dynamic task light) was built • Multidimensional evaluation integrates eye movement, subjective scales, and cognitive tasks. • 750 lx dynamic lighting shows optimal comprehensive performance. • Provides parameter references for healthy lighting design in classrooms.
