Dancing marbles in a soap film
This paper is associated with a video winner of the inaugural edition of the Visions of Fluid Dynamics competition at the 2025 EDFC. Two millimeter-sized particles deposited in a large horizontal soap film are attracted towards each other. Due to the very low friction at the surface of the soap film, the particles can exhibit a complex trajectory, and appear to dance together for about ten seconds before colliding. We give here a short overview of the topic and its perspectives.
