New aminoglycoside from the aerial parts of Ruehssia caatingae (Apocynaceae)

A new aminoglycoside N-Galacted Amino Acid, (3-methylpentanoic acid-β-D-galactofuranoside) (1) and two previously identified metabolites, (-)-conduritol F (2) and thymidine (3), were isolated of dried aerial parts of R. caatingae (Apocynaceae). The structure elucidation of these compounds was based on analyses of spectroscopic data including 1D, 2D NMR, IR and HR-ESI-MS techniques and by comparing their NMR data with those reported in the literature. Furthermore, the cytotoxic potential of compounds 1, 2 and 3 was evaluated by testing them against a panel of glioblastoma (U87-MG), neuroblastoma (SH-SY5Y) and breast adenocarcinoma (MDA-MB-231) cancer cell lines. All substances tested did not promote a minimum cytotoxicity of 50% in the tumour cell lines submitted to this assay.
