Combustion in Supersonic Flow in a Two-Section Channel with Side Supply of Compressed Air and Hydrogen

The control of combustion by throttling jets in a two-section channel with high-speed flow was studied numerically. Pulses of the first throttling jet were used to produce intense transonic combustion of hydrocarbon fuel in the first section. Side fuel supply was used to maintain the combustion regime before the channel expansion after the switching-off of the first jet. The fuel combustion efficiency in the second section was increased using a second throttling jet. The Reynolds-averaged Navier–Stokes equations closed by the $$k$$ – $$\varepsilon $$ turbulence model were solved. Combustion was modeled by the overall reaction. A pulsating regime of hydrogen combustion in the second section was established by using a cold throttling jet. The influence of this jet on the hydrogen combustion efficiency was studied.
