Industry 5.0 and sustainable production: A bibliometric analysis focusing on natural resource intensive industry

• Conducted a bibliometric analysis to identify key themes and research trends in Industry 5.0, with a focus on natural resource-intensive industries. • Highlighted the increasing integration of Industry 5.0 with green production and the use of sustainable intelligent manufacturing across product life cycle stages. • Emphasized growing focus on human-centric technologies to promote circular economies, secure industrial data, and adopt clean technologies. The rise in advanced technologies is leading to the introduction of Industry 5.0, which focuses on green production to meet sustainable development goals. Green production and rapid adoption of natural resources have become important approaches in the competitive, natural resource-intensive manufacturing industry. Although extensive literature is available on the relationship between sustainability and the fourth Industrial Revolution, major research areas related to Industry 5.0 still lag. Thus, this study conducts a bibliometric analysis followed by systematic mapping to understand the prevailing themes and research in Industry 5.0. The main findings of the research show the growing integration of Industry 5.0, green production, and the application of sustainable intelligent manufacturing in natural resource-intensive industries. It also summarizes the various challenges and potential that it brings in terms of sustainability. Greater attention is being paid to incorporating new technologies with a human-centric approach to foster a circular economy, ensure industrial data security, and integrate clean technologies. Since Industry 5.0 is in its evolution stage, there is much scope for future research and potential applications.
