Welcome to the Era of Transformative Chemistry

We are living in an era of scientific and technological transformation, marked by breakthroughs one after another in AI, quantum science, synthetic biology, renewable energy, and beyond. This transformation, unprecedented in scope and potential, is driven by the convergence and integration of multiple disciplines, such as information technology, biology, chemistry, and materials science. It is redefining possibilities, reshaping industries across the board, delivering innovative solutions to global challenges, and even transforming the landscapes of future world. introduces concepts that alter the way how we understand and construct the world of molecules; develops methods that unlock once-inaccessible regions of chemical space with precision, scalability, and sustainability; elucidates mechanisms that rewrite textbooks and guide generalizable design principles; creates molecules, macromolecules, and supramolecular systems that materially impact energy, health, information, and environment. In order to report, propagate, and accelerate such innovative advances in chemistry, we launch a new journal Transformative Chemistry. Transformative Chemistry is an international journal dedicated to publishing foundational forward-looking research that redefines the practice and reach of chemistry. We report molecular science across all scales, from small molecules and macromolecules to supramolecular assemblies and systems-level architectures. We encourage interdisciplinary research at the interface with biology, materials science, AI-driven chemistry, energy science, and related fields. The journal, on a quarterly basis, is going to publish communications, full articles, perspectives, and mini reviews with transparent and rapid publication process, building bridges between chemistry and the cutting edge frontiers, prompting and accelerating new discoveries. The philosophy of the editorial prioritizes depth over quantity, publishing works with transformative insight and lasting impact. We ensure rapid yet rigorous review with an emphasis on mechanistic depth, transparency, and reproducibility. Open access and FAIR data/code sharing are mandatory to maximize reach and utility. Committed to diversity and interdisciplinary collaboration, we adapt to chemistry's evolving frontiers—valuing not just results, but how they redefine the domain. Transformative Chemistry is anchored by globally recognized editorial leadership: Editor-in-Chief Kuiling Ding, Honorary Editor K. Barry Sharpless, and Executive Editor Yongfeng Zhou. An international editorial board with distinguished scientists, including Varinder K. Aggarwal, Michael Grätzel, Xuefeng Guo, Hideo Hosono, Kendall N. Houk, Taeghwan Hyeon, Bin Liu, Benzhong Tang, and Xi Zhang, whose expertise spans small molecules, macromolecules, supramolecular chemistry, computational chemistry and transformative technologies. The editorial board is distributed across leading institutions in Asia, North America, and Europe, with membership drawn from seven countries. Our journal rests on Wiley's international platform for enabling open-access submission, review, production, and distribution, and joint efforts and global networks of the Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Wiley in copublishing. Molecules have always changed the world—quietly, pervasively, decisively. However today, the pace and ambition of molecular innovation demand a venue that both recognizes and amplifies truly transformative advances. Transformative Chemistry aspires to be that venue: a platform where disruptive concepts meet exacting execution; where deep mechanistic insight meets societal urgency; and where the next generation of chemical ideas is not only recorded but launched. We invite you—synthetic chemists and chemical biologists, polymer and supramolecular architects, mechanism hunters, data scientists, and technology builders—to help define what “transformative” will mean for chemistry in the decades ahead. Abstract
