Seismic Performance Assessment of Urban Transportation Networks under Complex Disaster Conditions
This study introduces a comprehensive framework for evaluating the seismic performance of urban transportation networks under complex disaster conditions, incorporating earthquakes and wildfires. By integrating seismic analysis with wildfire damage assessment and advanced traffic flow modeling, this research offers novel insights into the impacts of multi-faceted disaster scenarios on critical infrastructure. Utilizing the city of Pohang, South Korea as a case study, the research employs a SUMO-based traffic simulation to analyze the effects of disasters on the urban mobility framework. The paper quantitatively assesses the overall network performance through metrics such as total evacuation time and isolated vehicle counts, highlighting significant variations in network functionality under different disaster intensities. Key findings suggest that complex disasters impose a compounded detriment to transportation efficiency, markedly more severe than individual disaster events. The adopted approach not only enhances understanding of infrastructure vulnerabilities but also aids in the strategic planning of urban resilience and emergency response measures. This study’s methodology can be adapted for broader applications across various urban settings, providing a critical tool for disaster preparedness and mitigation strategies.
