Advances in research of polypeptide nanozyme hydrogels in promoting wound healing: A review

• The synthesis strategies, classification, and applications of peptide nanozymes were systematically reviewed. • Discussed the characteristics of polypeptide nanozymes. • Explored the application of peptide nanoenzymes in promoting the repair of different wounds. • The current challenges and development directions faced by peptide nanozymes are proposed. Wound healing is a complex biological process that involves stages such as cell proliferation, angiogenesis, inflammatory response, and repair. Despite the availability of various treatment methods, there are still many challenges in the wound healing process. In recent years, the development of biomaterials has provided new strategies for wound healing treatment. Hydrogel materials loaded with peptide nanzymes have been prepared through specific synthesis methods, exhibiting good biocompatibility and unique physicochemical properties. Polypeptide nanzymes exhibit enzyme-like activity and can effectively regulate the wound microenvironment. They catalyze the decomposition of reactive oxygen species, alleviating oxidative stress damage; promote cell proliferation and migration, and accelerate the formation of new tissue. The hydrogel matrix serves as a sustained release platform for peptide nanofunctional enzymes, prolonging their action time and enhancing local concentration. In vitro cell experiments and in vivo animal wound model tests have confirmed that peptide-loaded nanozyme hydrogels can be effectively applied to various wound healing processes and improve the quality of healing. This review provides a strong basis for the development of novel, efficient wound repair materials and demonstrates the broad application prospects in the field of trauma repair.
