Lipoarabinomannan (LAM) for the diagnosis of tuberculosis from sputum
We read with great interest the Letter by Huang and colleagues describing a quantitative bright fluorescent strip LAM assay (QBs-LAM), which demonstrates promising potential to improve tuberculosis (TB) detection among HIV-negative individuals.1 In order to expand LAM-based diagnostics beyond HIV-associated TB, we have evaluated LAM detection using the PATHFAST TB LAM Ag assay (PATHFAST-LAM; PHC Corporation, Tokyo, Japan) in sputum samples.
