Psoriasiform Sporotrichosis in a Child: A Rare Case Mimicking Psoriasis
Fixed cutaneous sporotrichosis is rare and often mimics chronic inflammatory dermatoses, which can delay diagnosis. We describe an 11-year-old boy with an erythematous plaque on the left elbow persisting for 11 months after minor trauma, initially misdiagnosed as psoriasis. Fungal culture confirmed Sporothrix spp., while histopathology revealed nonspecific inflammation, and treatment with oral itraconazole 100 mg daily led to complete resolution within 12 weeks. This case highlights the need to consider sporotrichosis in the differential diagnosis of chronic, fixed plaques unresponsive to standard therapy, especially in pediatric patients from endemic areas.
