(P2) impact of laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy for pelvic organ prolapse on sexuality in Tunisian couples
Abstract Background Pelvic organ prolapse (POP) is a common condition, particularly among postmenopausal women, significantly impacting quality of life. Laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy has emerged as a minimally invasive surgical technique for the correction of POP. While its anatomical success rates are well-documented, its long-term impact on sexual function and quality of life remains less explored This study aimed to evaluate the impact of laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy on sexual function and quality of life in Tunisian women with POP. Methods A prospective study was conducted at the Urology Department from January 2020 to September 2023. Forty women with stage 2 or greater POP were included. Preoperatively and a of 12 months postoperatively, participants completed the Pelvic Incontinence Sexual Questionnaire (PISQ-12) and the Pelvic Floor Impact Questionnaire (PFIQ-7). Results The mean age of participants was 51 ± 3 years. A high anatomical success rate of over 95% was achieved at 3 months postoperatively and at 12-month. For the Sexual Function: (PISQ-12): Significant improvements were observed in all domains of the (PISQ-12), including sexual desire, arousal, lubrication, orgasm, satisfaction, and overall sexual function. Sexual Frequency: A notable increase in sexual frequency was reported postoperatively, with 60% of couples engaging in sexual intercourse weekly compared to 40% preoperatively. (PFIQ-7): Significant improvements were observed in all domains of the (PFIQ-7), indicating a positive impact on overall quality of life. Conclusion Laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy is an effective treatment for POP, in terms of anatomical correction but also in improving sexual function and quality of life. The significant increase in sexual frequency and improvements in sexual satisfaction highlight the positive impact of this procedure on couple relationships.
