Successful Management of Chromoblastomycosis with Combined Fractional CO2 laser and Photodynamic therapy in a 68-Year-Old Male: A Case Report
This case highlights the management of chromoblastomycosis in an elderly patient, emphasizing the relevance of innovative treatment approaches in dermatology. A 68-year-old male with a two-year history of skin lesions after right upper limb trauma was treated using fractional CO2 laser therapy followed by photodynamic therapy. The examination revealed a 10 cm × 8 cm infiltrative plaque, with biopsy confirming phaeohyphomycosis. Fungal culture identified phaeoannellomyces. After treatment that included 10 sessions of fractional CO2 laser therapy followed by photodynamic therapy combined with itraconazole and topical oxiconazole, significant lesion improvement was observed. Follow-up showed complete healing and no fungal detection in subsequent biopsies and cultures. Combined fractional CO2 laser and photodynamic therapy are effective in treating chromoblastomycosis, particularly in elderly patients, showcasing a promising approach to management.
