Long-term Outcomes of Lung Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma Patients Treated with Photodynamic Therapy: A Case Report and Literature Review
A 51-year-old man with bronchial adenoid cystic carcinoma and bone metastasis faced respiratory symptoms and disease progression over four years. This study evaluated treatment effectiveness, including chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and bronchoscopic procedures. The patient received systemic chemotherapy with radiotherapy, followed by photodynamic therapy (PDT) and bronchoscopic interventions for necrotic tissue removal and airway dilation. He experienced clinical stability and deterioration, with significant complications like respiratory distress requiring intensive monitoring. Key findings showed an initial response to PDT, leading to an 18-month remission, but recurrence occurred with extensive metastasis. The patient ultimately died from respiratory failure due to disease progression. These results underscore the complexities of managing this cancer and the need for a multidisciplinary treatment approach and ongoing monitoring. Future research should aim to optimize treatment strategies and explore new therapies to improve survival in advanced bronchial malignancies.
