Analysis of Advantages of Novel Photosensitizers for Photodynamic Therapy of Acne
Photodynamic therapy (PDT) traditionally uses the photosensitizer 5-aminolevulinic acid (ALA) for the treatment of skin conditions such as acne. Limited by its physicochemical properties, ALA presents some therapeutic challenges. These challenges are addressed by structural optimization in the form of lipophilic ester derivatives of ALA – a new generation of photosensitizers. This article systematically analyzes the significant advantages of MAL-P, providing an ideal choice and a new direction for acne treatment. Compare the advantages of MAL-P and 5-ALA through literature review and theoretical analysis. MAL-P demonstrates better skin permeability, shortens treatment time, reduces pigmentation and pain, and increases patient compliance. The new photosensitizer MAL-P optimizes its structure through unique chemical modifications to address the limitations of ALA, providing a new direction for photodynamic therapy in the treatment of acne.
