Nonlinear Vibration Control of a Dual-Excited Coupled Beam using NESs

Elastic beams represent a fundamental structural element extensively employed across numerous engineering disciplines. Various complex systems, such as robotic arms, high-speed equipment, and offshore platforms, can be modeled as assemblies of elastic beams through appropriate simplification methods. During operation, these beam systems are often subjected to time-varying loads, which tend to induce mechanical vibrations. This research introduces NESs into a dual-excited coupled beam, aiming to utilize them to control the vibration. The Galerkin truncation method (GTM) is chosen to solve the key formulas of the system with NESs. According to the numerical analysis, the dynamic consequences of the dual-excited coupled beam with NESs can be validly calculated using the GTM. NESs play a positive vibration control effectiveness on the dual-excited coupled beam. Increasing the key parameter of NESs within a specific range is conducive to improving the vibration control effect of NESs. An excessively high value of the key parameter of NESs motivates quasi-periodic oscillations of the dual-excited coupled beam. The simulation consequences of the dual-excited coupled beam vary with changes in phase differences, where the dynamic effects form an effective amplitude interval. The maximum response peaks for the excited beam 1 and the excited beam 2 in the coupled beam system typically are reached at different phase differences of the exciters.
