The cytotoxic and immunomodulatory mechanisms of photodynamic therapy evaluated in in vitro studies on cultures of selected skin cell lines.”

The aim of the research was to determine the immunological profile of patients with selected inflammatory skin diseases (AD, PS) and the immunomodulatory effect of PDT conducted on skin cell lines. A total of 139 patients with AD, 115 with PS, and 142 controls were included in the study. In this group the cytokines serum blood profiles was assessed. In vitro study was performed on the two human cell lines: HDFa and HEKa. Cell supernatants subjected to sublethal PDT were assessed to determine the interleukins concentrations using Bio-Plex system. Significant differences were observed in the concentration of assessed IL between patients with ADPS and those with AD or PS and controls The results of the in vitro study confirm the destructive and immunomodulatory effect of HY–PDT. Our clinical study reveal differences of cytokines concentrations in AD, PS and ADPS patients. In vitro experiment has confirmed immunomodulatory effect of HY-PDT.
