The synthesis and animal clinical test results of new photosensitizer Photomed®.
New imidazolide photosensitizer derived from pheophorbide a was synthesized successfully. We tried to enhance water solubility via Pegilation, but by a special treatment we had higher water-soluble mixture with minimum amount of DMSO, which gave any problem to cell experiment. PP100 showed much more powerful than general chlorin photosensitizers in cancer treatments as well as microbial inactivation on pet animals. In this presentation we will report several clinical data along with pharmacokinetics of new photosensitizer PP100 named as Photomed®. Some of toxicological tests were done also on rats and dogs showing quite safe in clinical dosages. Photomed® is useful not only to tumor cells, but also to bacteria, fungi and viruses. In a specific nanoparticle, it showed higher PDT activities and PTT(Photothermal Therapy) activities too. Furthermore, we found it showed good immunotherapy effect. We found Photomed® can be a potential PDT/PTT agent, PDI agent and PIT(PhotoimmunoTherapy) agent too.
