Study of joint pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of methylene blue and chlorin e6 in vivo on the mice tumor models

It is important to search new therapeutic approaches that will improve the effectiveness of tumor treatment. The pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of methylene blue (MB) and chlorin e6 in vivo on the mice tumor models were studied using spectroscopic methods. The combined use of MB and chlorin e6 allows to increase the efficiency of photodynamic therapy (PDT) due to two different mechanisms: a decrease in the rate of MB transition to colorless photoinactive leukomethylene blue and an increase in the photodynamic effect due to type I reactions (MB), complementing the photodynamic effect due to type II reactions (chlorin e6); an increase in tumor oxygenation during the transition of MB to colorless photoinactive leukomethylene blue and an increase in the photodynamic effect due to type II reactions (chlorin e6). The combined use of MB and chlorin e6 allows to increase the efficiency of PDT.
