Correlation and gender differences between stigma and social support in patients with bright red nevi

To explore the correlation between stigma and social support in patients with port-wine stains, as well as gender differences. Methods A total of 159 patients with port-wine stains were selected from the vascular tumor department of a tertiary hospital in Zhengzhou. The Social Impact Scale and the Social Support Rating Scale were used to investigate the stigma and social support of the patients. The total score for stigma in patients with port-wine stains was (62.07±13.19), and the total score for social support was (35.43±7.81). Female patients with port-wine stains had significantly higher scores for stigma and all dimensions compared to males; however, they had significantly lower scores for social support and all dimensions compared to males (P<0.001). The stigma in patients with port-wine stains is at a moderately high level, and gender plays a moderating role between stigma and social support in these patients.
