Efficacy of ALA-PDT on Cervical Low-Grade Squamous Intraepithelial Lesions in Different Transformation Zones

The study investigated the clinical efficacy of Photodynamic therapy (PDT) mediated by 5-aminolevulinic acid (5-ALA) for cervical low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion with different types of transformation zones. A retrospective study was performed on 98 patients with histologically confirmed cervical low-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion and receiving 5-ALA PDT. All patients were followed up at 3-6 months after treatment, effect was evaluated by cotesting of HPV extended genotyping and liquid-based cytology and coloposcopy. Complete remission included cervical LSIL resolution and negative HPV testing. The total complete remission (CR) rate was 78.54% (77/98) at 3-6 months after treatment. The CR rates for the SCJ3, SCJ2, and SCJ1 groups were 75.00%, 84.21%, and 81.48%, respectively. There was no statistically significant difference in the CR rate between the SCJ3 group and the SCJ2 and SCJ1 groups (p>0.05). Our study demonstrates that 5-ALA-PDT is highly effective in treating cervical intraepithelial neoplasia across different transformation zones.

There was no statistically significant difference in the CR rate between the SCJ3 group and the SCJ2 and SCJ1 groups (p>0.05). Our study demonstrates that 5-ALA-PDT is highly effective in treating cervical intraepithelial neoplasia across different transformation zones.
