a Hiporfin Photodynamic Therapy vs. Excision Therapy in Treating Cervical High-Grade Squamous Intraepithelial Lesion

This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of Hiporfin-photodynamic therapy (PDT) versus the loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP) in treating cervical high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesions (HSIL). In a 1:1 matched case-control design, 55 women diagnosed with cervical HSIL received Hiporfin-PDT, while another 55 cases underwent LEEP. The complete response rates following PDT were 98.2% (54/55) at 3rd-6th months and 100.0% (55/55) at 10th-12th months, compared to 98.2% (54/55) and 100.0% (54/54) respectively after LEEP. HPV clearance rates after PDT were 74.5% (41/55) at 3rd-6th months and 89.1% (49/55) at 10th-12th months, compared to 70.9% (39/55) and 90.7% (49/54) respectively after LEEP. Postoperative complications in the PDT group were mild and well-tolerated. The cure rates and HPV clearance achieved with Hiporfin-PDT were comparable to those of LEEP in managing cervical HSIL. Hiporfin-PDT may serve as an effective organ-preserving alternative treatment for cervical HSIL.
