Combining photodynamic therapy with low-temperature radiofrequency to treat periungual warts

The efficacy of combining photodynamic therapy (PDT) with low-temperature radiofrequency (LRF) technology to treat periungual warts is still unknown . PDT utilizes photosensitizing agents activated by specific light wavelengths to selectively destroy wart tissue, while LRF controlled thermal energy to prevent from damaging surrounding healthy tissue. This Clinical study aimed at demonstrating whether combining PDT with LRF has promising outcomes, with significant wart clearance and improved cosmetic results. Nine patients with periungual warts were treated by PDT&LRF. At least part of the nail plate were removed before the treatment. Under local anesthesia, all the warts were treated by LRF. One week later, PDT(4 times with interval as one week) were applied. Promising cosmetical appearance as well as less pain showed in 8 patients. C ombining PDT with LRF is a promising option to treat periungual warts, especially for the patients with high cosmetic and microinvasive demands.
