Photodynamic Therapy for Acne Fulminans: A Successful Case Report
To explore the efficacy of photodynamic therapy in the treatment of acne fulminans, a rare disease. An 11-year-old male adolescent diagnosed with acne fulminans was treated with photodynamic therapy, along with a gradual taper of minocycline (100 mg/day initially) for infection control, etoricoxib (30 mg/day initially) for pain management, and prednisone acetate(30 mg/day initially) as an anti-inflammatory agent. Systemic symptoms, including fever and musculoskeletal manifestations, were controlled rapidly, and all ulcerations healed. No obvious recurrence were founded during his 2-year follow-up period. Photodynamic therapy is an effective, safe treatment of acne fulminans with lower risk of recurrence.
