Efficacy of ALA-PDT and CO2 laser in the treatment of high-grade vaginal intraepithelial neoplasia

To compare the efficacy and safety of ALA-PDT and CO2 Laser in the treatment of high-grade VaIN. A retrospective review was conducted on 59 patients with high grade VaIN who were treated by ALA-PDT (n=21) or CO2 Laser (n=28) in Peking University People's Hospital from January 2023 to September 2024. After treatment patients were followed up at 3 and 6 months afterwards. (1) The clinical characteristics of patients in the two groups were similar. (2) At 3 and 6 months after treatment in ALA-PDT group, the overall complete remission (CR) rates were similar to that in CO2 Laser group and The total HPV clearance rates were significantly high in ALA-PDT group. (2) The incidence of the adverse events(AE) in ALA-PDT group was lower than that in CO2 laser group. ALA-PDT has equivalent lesion reversal rates and superior HPV clearance compared with CO2 laser in the treatment of high-grade VaIN.
