Does the treatment interval of photodynamic therapy for facial port-wine stains affect the curative effect?
Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is one of the mainstream treatment methods for port wine stains. The conventional treatment interval is usually between 2 and 3 months. However, relatively few studies have explored the optimal treatment time interval. This research project aims to investigate the differences in the efficacy of photodynamic therapy for facial port-wine stains at different treatment intervals. Patients who met the inclusion criteria in our hospital from 2017 to 2024 were selected and were divided into groups with treatment intervals of 2 months, 4 months, and 6 months. There was no significant difference in efficacy among these groups. Numerous factors affect the effectiveness of photodynamic therapy for port-wine stains. After thorough consideration, appropriately prolonging the treatment interval can considerably lessen the burden on patients and their families and offer a basis for clinicians to formulate individualized treatment plans for different types of patients in future clinical practice.
