Two Cases of Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma Treated with Bronchoscopic Intervention Combined with Photodynamic Therapy
Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is a challenging malignancy with limited treatment options. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) has emerged as a promising local treatment modality due to its targeted approach and minimal systemic toxicity. This study evaluates the safety of PDT in treating advanced NPC. A case analysis was conducted on two nasopharyngeal carcinoma patients who underwent PDT treatment at Dongzhimen Hospital. The PDT procedure involved intravenous injection of hematoporphyrin, local anesthesia, percutaneous insertion of optical fibers, and irradiation with a 630nm laser for 300-900 seconds. After undergoing 3-4 sessions of PDT treatment, both patients commonly experienced adverse reactions including localized pain, redness, swelling, and infection, which were alleviated following symptomatic treatment. No severe complications such as active bleeding were observed. PDT demonstrates favorable safety in treating nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
