Successfully treatment of oculocutaneous albinism with invasive squamous cell carcinoma and diffuse AK by sequential ALA-PDT combined with surgery
Oculocutaneous Albinism (OCA) is a rare genetic disorder characterized by increased sensitivity of the skin and eyes to sunlight, making individuals more susceptible to damage. Patients often develop invasive cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) and actinic keratosis (AK). Traditional treatments may not be fully effective, necessitating safer and more effective approaches. 5-Aminolevulinic acid photodynamic therapy (ALA-PDT) is a widely used treatment for skin conditions, offering high efficacy with low toxicity. We report the successful use of ALA-PDT combined with surgery in treating an OCA patient with invasive cSCC and multiple AKs. No significant adverse reactions or complications were observed. Thus, sequential ALA-PDT combined with surgery may be a promising and effective therapeutic modality for these conditions in OCA patients.
