The influence of photodynamic therapy on the expression level of selected regulatory proteins in oral squamous cell carcinoma cells - an in vitro study.
One of the alternative methods of treating pre-cancerous lesions and oral cancer is photodynamic therapy (PDT). The aim of the study was to assess the influence of HY-PDT on the expression level of selected regulatory proteins in OSCC and HGF-1 cell culture. We performed HY-PDT in vitro. Then tell supernatants subjected to sublethal PDT were assessed for interleukin 6 (IL-6), (sIL-6Ralfa), sIL-6Rbeta, IL-8, IL-10, IL-11 IL-20, IL-32, Pentraxin-3, sTNF-R1, and sTNF-R2 using the Bio-Plex Pro Assay. HY-PDT affected the SCC-25 cell secretion of sIL-6Rbeta, IL-20, Pentraxin-3, and sTNF-R1. HY alone increased IL-8 secretion. In the case of HGF-1, the effect of HY-PDT on the secretion of IL-8 and IL-32 was found. Understanding the cytotoxic and immunomodulatory effects allows us to assume the influence of HY-PDT on the course of cancer, which may help in creating individualized treatment strategies for oral squamous cell carcinoma.
